      Hi cake393egg and xmas393ear,

I don’t really recall doing any weird experiments but I do remember experiments that produced weird smells in the lab 😀 Especially the experiments that involved hydrogen sulfide (H2S), they have a characteristic smell of rotten eggs! ewww.

The weirdest experiment for me was injecting some pork belly from the butchers. It was to see where the injection goes! We also got to put the pork belly in jelly and spin it to take pictures across the inside of it.

During my final year at university I was involved in a project that involved analysing mosquitoes!

We developed a method that could quickly tell you the age of the mosquito – which then tells you it’s capability for transmitting malaria. This method is now being used by field scientists in Tanzania!

I once did a reaction using yeast (the stuff you use to make bread!). You had to be careful with the reaction conditions so you didn’t kill the yeast!

I remember that back at University, we had to collect saliva by spitting into a glass to then isolate an enzyme called amylase (which digests glycogen and starch to produce simpler sugars) and test how it works.
